Shimmy Mama

Tales from my charmed life as a wife, mother of two, and belly dancer.

So I joined Twitter. I twit, therefore I am a twit? Hmm. But I'm realizing I'm too verbose for Twitter so perhaps I should just blog again.

I hate that my last post was so negative about the Bahamas. After another fabulous Christmas, we finally DID make it to the Bahamas.

Here are Zachary and Daddy with his new Xtreme Roller Coaster that Santa brought. It is way cool! Evan enjoyed his first Christmas, although his loot was a little less "xtreme."

We went to the Bahamas in February and had an absolutely wonderful time. Ryan found a private airline out of Jacksonville that flew direct to the Abacos. It costs us less to drive to Jacksonville, stay overnight in a hotel, and fly on a small Beechcraft than it would to fly from here on Delta. Plus it was fun and we were treated like royalty. Our boat was at the Abacos Beach Resort in Marsh Harbour. We stayed for two weeks and it was paradise. Evan slept through the night for the first time while we were there, so I DID NOT want to come home! We went back again in March for Zachary's Spring Break and had just as much fun. The islands really are the place for me.

I came back the 2nd time with just the kids while Kurt and Denise flew there to meet Ryan and begin the journey home with Southern Cross. The kids and I spent a quiet Easter at home, but had such a great day.

The Easter Bunny was exceptionally generous since Daddy was out of town. After enjoying their baskets, the kids hunted the 72 Easter Eggs hidden in the living room.

I helped Evan as he rolled around finding eggs.

But Zachary needed no help at all!

Milestones have come so fast. May was a big month. Evan started crawling. He just took off and we've been chasing him ever since. His nickname is "Scooter" because he can scoot away so fast! Zachary graduated from Preschool. It was so sweet and sad. I just loved his class and his teachers. He's off to the big school next year!

This is his friend Caroline, she lives down the street. Her little brother, Cooper is two weeks older than Evan. Caroline says that Cooper and Evan are best friends. She's a year behind Zachary so she didn't "graduate" this year.
And one more MAJOR milestone happened on Ryan's birthday, March 23. Zachary's first tooth fell out! His permanent tooth is starting to push through now. It's crazy. Evan has 7 teeth, with the 8th one on it's way. It's ironic that both kids are teething!
Now that summer is here we are spending tons of time outside, in the pool, and at the beach. This is when living in Florida is so wonderful. Zachary has become such a water child. Every afternoon while Evan takes his nap we swim in the pool.
Evan, however, battled recurring ear infections for months and we finally got tubes put in his ears 2 weeks ago. I know he feels better because he's happily sleeping on his back for the first time in months. He had so much thick mucous behind his ears and the infections just couldn't heal. We've got to get him ear plugs so he can swim with us. Evan is finally on a good schedule and things are so much fun now. He and Zachary interact a lot and it's so incredibly cute. Evan is huge - 23 pounds! I have more recent pics of him but I need to download them from my camera.
This summer will be three monumental parties:
1. Zachary's 5th birthday party on June 20 (his actual birthday is the 24th). He wanted it to have a Madagascar 2 Party and a water slide. That took a little creativity to work the Congo river into the theme, but it's not like anyone really pays that much attention, right?
2. Evan's 1st birthday party on July 21. I cannot believe my baby will no longer be a baby. We're doing a rubber duckie theme and inviting his best friend Cooper!
3. My 40th birthday! Holy cow, am I really leaving my 30's?? We're renting out the skating rink and I'm throwing an 80's skate party. Of course I had this idea way before all the celebs started doing this! Dee will cater for us and it promises to be a wild event. I need to start practicing my skating - it's not quite like riding a bike!
Ok, that's all I got for now. I promised Zachary we'd play "Brown Bear, Panda Bear" before Evan wakes up!
