Nearing the end . . .

Well Southern Cross is no longer in 5th place out of 5 in their class, they are in 3rd place out of the three remaining in their class. The two other boats "pushed the button" and got the DQ. And I don't mean Dairy Queen, folks. Southern Cross should finish the race sometime this afternoon, and for the love of God I hope they have caught some fish. Otherwise this race will just be a dismall reminder that sometimes the weather is as predicted. Tough luck for the SC crew.

HOWEVER, as dismall as it appears to us lookers, I have no doubt that Captain Duct Tape, ole Mr. Positive himself, has a sunny outlook. I recall a time when we were on Southern Cross in the Bahamas, in the Spring of 2003. It was Kurt, Ryan, and me, and we were anchored at Gun Cay, a little uninhabited island in the southern part of the Bahamas. The anchorage was beautiful, and there was lots of great fishing and snorkeling all around us. But, it was, on average, 400 degrees outside. For some reason Ryan wanted to conserve fuel and not run the generator, therefore not run the A/C. Mr. Positive would look grandly out at the sunset, as we all enjoyed cocktails, and remark "I think it's a bit cooler tonight, we really don't need to run the generator tonight!" Kurt and I, having given up any hopes of convincing him otherwise, would nod politely as the sweat trickled down the sides of our faces. I think there is nothing worse than sleeping in hot, humid conditions, but my trusty Captain can apparently sleep in virtually any conditions. No wonder he's so happy all the time! So, in light of this anecdote, I'm sure that Ryan is blissfully happy and proud that they did not "push the button" and "hey, we finished 3rd in our class!! Woo hoo!!" Being married to Mr. Positive has it's advantages, at least he's not a quitter!! :)
